Support our Troops and Sarasota

 I got to attend the Sarasota Association of Realtors launch of “Surge Of Support” yesterday at the Hilton Garden Inn here in Sarasota.

I was moved by the stories I heard from the numerous speakers. The speakers were; Florida Senator Mike Bennett. He began the morning by sharing his personal experiences and passion for supporting veterans. Dr. Steven Scott, spoke on behalf of the James A. Haley VA Hospital and specifically, the polytrauma unit. of our military forces. Mary Ellen Harlin described her personal experiences with the military, and introduced the Haley House and its origins. You cannot believe what this women has done for our soldiers. Dr. Rich Swier explained the Sarasota County Veterans Commission, gave an overview of the types of organizations that are involved, and described the local veterans’ community, what their needs are and how they are being met. And respectively, Danny Bilyeu, field representative for Congressman Vern Buchanan, spoke about recent legislation providing additional veteran benefits.

This was a great event because we American’s forget what is going on with our troops coming home with injuries and trauma and what we can do for them. They need us. They are there for us, let’s be here for them. Get involved, contribute a donation and/or spread the word.
